MapQuest's new Directions Web Service entered beta this week. MapQuest describe the new web service as a "sane and modern web service that's easy to use". Samples show a RESTful web request which includes a developer license key. The response is JSONP which can fire a JavaScript callback function. The serviceprovides routing directions, supports a number of formats (JSON,XML,Key-Value, plus others in development) and includes URLs to suitable images (eg. road shields). Full information and sign-up links can be found on the MapQuest developer pages: http://developer.mapquest.com/Beta The announcement blog entry is here.
