After implementing geo-location support in their own API, Twitter have purchased Mixer Labs. Media Labs produce the GeoAPI geo-location and reverse geocoding services. Media Labs describe their services as helping developers to determine not just "What is happening?" but where it is happening as well. As to be expected from such a purchase, Twitter have already said they will be integrating these abilities into the Twitter API.
